Postcards from the Empire

Is an Anti-Immigration Globalist Running Poland? The current Polish prime-minister, Donald Tusk, a globalist whose coalition beat the ruling national-conservative Law and Justice Party (PiS) in the 2023 elections is, interestingly, trying to continue the tough immigration position of his predecessors. What is the reason for this change of heart?

Tusk has spent his entire career hewing to the globalist line. He has been absolutely slavish in his adherence to EU regulations and rules. He was previously prime minister from 2007 to 2014. After his party lost the 2014 elections, the EU technocrats gave him the prestigious post of President of the European Council, the group that really runs the EU, as opposed to the nearly powerless EU Parliament. He remained in that post till 2019 because he was trusted by the elites.

Since winning the 2023 Polish elections, Tusk has deviated from the globalist line in two significant areas, immigration and the European Green New Deal. The Green New Deal, a set of insane draconian environmental regulations, that has caused real suffering in many European countries by undermining both agriculture and industry. Beginning in April 2024, Tusk made it clear that Poland would not abide by the EU Migration Pact. The pact, forced on Europe by EU technocrats, requires that all EU countries take in significant numbers of Third-world “migrants and asylees.” The pact was passed by the EU in early 2024 and will officially go into effect in mid-2026. Tusk absolutely refuses to implement it in Poland and told EU dictatoress, Ursula von der Layen this to her face. The other European leader that refuses to implement the pact is Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, but that’s not a surprise.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk

Now, Tusk gave as his excuse for not implementing the pact the presence of huge numbers of Ukrainian refugees in his country due to the war. However, I’m convinced that Tusk is trying to hold on to his prime ministership as long as he can. Thanks to the strict policies of PiS, the number of Third-World immigrants in Poland is virtually nil. The main reason PiS lost the election was that the new, more edgy and youthful nationalist and anti-immigration party “Confederation” took away a large number of their votes but refused to go into coalition with them.Subscribed

I’m convinced that Tusk is opposing the migration pact and the green regulation because he wants to stay in office. If there is a third-world flood coming into Poland, he will be toast. Poles, unlike Western Europeans, have gotten used to the extraordinary idea that Poland should be inhabited mainly by, of all things, Poles. In countries like Poland and Hungary restrictive immigration opinions have become institutionalized. I’m sure that when Tusk puts his head on his pillow at night, he sheds a tear or two about the fact that he country will never enjoy the wonders of diversity, but like all politicians, he loves the power and adulation that comes with his office and he wants to stay there. In the 1930’s a lot of Republicans in the US opposed the Social Security program at the time of its passage, but over the years its popularity became so overwhelming that they just had to stop opposing it. The same goes with immigration in our own time. If, in the US, Trump somehow manages to stop the flood of illegals and send millions back to their countries of origin, his policy will become so popular no sane politico will oppose it.

What’s happening in Poland in terms of the institutionalization of anti-migrant policies may have positive effects in Hungary, which will have elections in 2026. Right now, Prime Minister Viktor Orban, the dean of national-conservatives worldwide, is flagging in the polls. It is possible his Fidesz Party might lose. It, obviously, would be a disaster, in my opinion, for the Hungarian people. However, I strongly suspect any globalist successor won’t mess abound with his tough immigration laws.
