Negotiations With Iran Look Like Another Trump ‘Kabuki Dance’

Israel has been pushing for the U.S. to fight Iran for decades.

John Mearsheimer, the University of Chicago professor, said in an interview Friday that the Trump administration’s so-called effort to hold negotiations to end the Ukraine War and prevent an ill-advised war between the U.S. and Iran is an exercise in futility because, as of now, there are no plausible deals in either crisis.

Judge Andrew Naplitano asked Mearsheimer why the Iranians would ever agree with the U.S. to end its civilian nuclear program and put caps on its feared ballistic missile program, thus leaving it at the mercy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who would like to see the country either collapse or replace the government with a Washington stooge.

Mearsheimer told him that Iran will not agree to such terms, which is why these negotiations are a “kabuki dance.”

“I want people to tell me what the plausible deal looks like between us and the Iranians that our paymasters, the Israelis, would accept,” he said. “What’s the deal? Nobody can tell me what the deal is. The same thing, again, is true with regard to the Russian issue. What is the plausible deal that’s on the table that would satisfy the Russians, the Ukrainians, the Europeans, and the Americans? And there is no plausible deal. So, we pretend that these talks, that endlessly go on, are going to lead somewhere when there is no chance, at this point, that these talks are going to lead somewhere.”

RT posted seven of Netanyahu’s reported demands in the U.S. talks with Iran.

Iran has said repeatedly that its nuclear program and missile program are not up for discussion.

Mohammad Marandi, the professor from the University of Tehran, posted: “Iran will not negotiate its missile capabilities, nor its regional alliances. It will not negotiate its nuclear rights, nor its right to produce nuclear fuel. Instead, it is only willing to negotiate a nuclear deal, but it must be significantly better for Iran than the JCPOA.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been clear that he wants Ukrainian forces out of the four oblasts that are now either partially or entirely controlled by his forces. These regions include Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson. Ukraine must also forget about ever joining NATO, and Russia also wants demilitarization in Ukraine.

Mearsheimer said he believes the only hope for the Ukaine War to end is that it goes so badly for the Ukrainians that they reach an armistice with Russia and “we get a cold peace.
