Andrew Neil exposed the core of Ben Shapiro’s politics in one exchange: Shapiro tied “real” Jewish identity to an ideological commitment that, in practice, means loyalty to Israel’s political project and its wars. When Neil pressed him on calling Obama-voting Jews “Jews in name only,” Shapiro admitted: “If you are somebody who takes Judaism seriously, that comes along with ideological commitment.” That is the mask slipping.
