A Failed False Flag in the Mediterranean: Israel Attacked the USS Liberty — but the Ship Survived the “Mistake” Lie
On June 8, 1967, Israel attacked the USS Liberty.
That is the fact Washington tried to soften, Israel tried to bury, and survivors were forced to carry for decades under the weight of official denial.

The NSA/CSS history shows Israeli command had already identified the USS Liberty. The ship was marked G.T.R.-5. The American flag was visible. The target was erased from the Israeli naval plot. Israeli archive correspondence warned that American findings showed the pilots knew the ship was American. Dwight Porter’s NSA intercept account is blunt: “This is an American ship” — “Never mind; hit it.” A CIA file names Moshe Dayan in the title itself: “Attack on USS Liberty Ordered by Dayan.”
This is not the anatomy of confusion.
This is the anatomy of a cover story.
And the cover story did not end at sea. It moved into Washington: into Lyndon Johnson’s response, into the White House access map, into Israeli spy Mathilde Krim’s proximity before and after the attack, and into the Moorer findings later entered into the Congressional Record: deliberate Israeli attack, recalled rescue, and survivors threatened into silence.
The reason this report matters is simple: the survivors are still alive, still speaking, and still denied.
The ship survived.
The sailors spoke.
The files opened.

Israel Identified the Ship. The Flag Was Visible. NSA Called the Israeli Inquiry a “Whitewash.”
Israel’s false “mistake” story collapses at the point of identification.
The NSA/CSS cryptologic history, Attack on a SIGINT Collector, the U.S.S. Liberty, records that Israeli command already knew what the ship was before the attack: a U.S. Navy intelligence ship, USS Liberty, marked G.T.R.-5. The ship was not unknown. It was identified inside Israeli naval channels before Israeli fire hit it.
The key evidence is simple: Israel knew. The NSA/CSS record states that Israeli Navy Headquarters had Liberty’s exact name, ship type, and hull number before the attack. The ship was not a vague contact, not a battlefield shadow, and not an Egyptian vessel. It was the USS Liberty, G.T.R.-5 — a U.S. Navy intelligence ship — already inside Israeli naval awareness.
Then came the erasure. After Israeli command received the identifying data, the Acting Chief of Naval Operations ordered the target erased from the combat information center plot table because no current location was available. That is where the “mistake” story breaks. A known American ship disappeared from the Israeli command plot before Israeli forces attacked it.
That removal does not rescue the mistake story. It indicts it. If Israeli command already had the ship’s name, type, and hull number, then the attack cannot be explained as pure ignorance. The question becomes why identifying information already inside the Israeli military system failed to protect an American ship from Israeli aircraft and torpedo boats.
That is not the fog of war. That is the beginning of the cover-up architecture.
Israeli command did not attack an unknown ship. It knew USS Liberty’s identity, erased the target before the attack, then hid behind a story NSA Deputy Director Louis Tordella called “a nice whitewash.”
NSA Intercepts and CIA File: The Records Point Past Accident
Section I established the first fracture: Israel had already identified the USS Liberty before the attack, then erased it from the Israeli naval plot.
Section II shows what happened when the attack entered the intelligence record.
The American identity problem did not disappear after the strike. It came back immediately inside Israeli communications. The flag came back. The G.T.R.-5 marking came back. The question of who Israel had just attacked came back.
This section is not built on one quote.
It is built on convergence.
The NSA intercept file does not contain the attacking-aircraft or torpedo-boat communications. It records post-attack Israeli helicopter/control-tower communications. But that makes the file even more revealing in another way: after Israel hit the ship, Israeli communications were already dealing with the evidence that the target was American.
The NSA file records intercepted Israeli communications after the attack — and those communications put the American identity problem inside Israel’s own operational traffic. Israeli helicopter/control exchanges dealt with the American flag and the G.T.R.-5 marking on the ship’s side. This was not a later invention. NSA intercepted Israel confronting the evidence immediately after Israel attacked the USS Liberty.
Israeli State Archives Warning, Reported by Haaretz
Israel’s own State Archives file breaks the core denial: the claim that Israeli pilots attacked the USS Liberty without knowing it was American. The warning was blunt: “The Americans have findings that show our pilots were in fact aware the ship was American.”
That sentence is the bridge between the official files and the battlefield account.
It connects the visible flag, the G.T.R.-5 marking, the post-attack intercept problem, and the reported pilot/control-room exchange attributed to former U.S. Ambassador Dwight Porter.
I am repeating this deliberately because this is the chain Israel needs buried.
The NSA/CSS record shows Israeli Navy Headquarters had already received Liberty’s identity: USS Liberty, U.S. Navy, G.T.R.-5. The target was then erased from the Israeli naval plot before the attack.
Then Israel’s own archive record warned that “the Americans have findings that show our pilots were in fact aware the ship was American.” That line matters because states do not write warnings like that unless they fear the file already contains proof.
Then comes Porter’s NSA intercept account: the Israeli pilot says the target is the USS Liberty, says it is an American ship, and says he can see the flag. The Israeli war room’s answer was not to stop. It was: “Never mind; hit it.”
That is the chain: identified by Israeli command, erased before attack, feared inside Israeli correspondence, and repeated in the reported intercept account.
Then comes the CIA file — the smoking gun out of the archive.
This is where the story leaves the language of accident and enters the language of command. The document names Moshe Dayan in the title itself: “Attack on USS Liberty Ordered by Dayan.”
That is not the vocabulary of a battlefield mistake. That is the vocabulary of an order.
The CIA file does not carry the language of a misunderstanding. It carries the language of command responsibility.
Its title alone is devastating: “Attack on USS Liberty Ordered by Dayan.”
The report records that Moshe Dayan personally ordered the attack on the American ship, and that another Israeli general objected, calling it “pure murder.”
That is not the public story.
The public was told Israel accidentally attacked the USS Liberty.
The files expose the architecture behind the lie.
They show Israeli command already had the ship’s identity: USS Liberty, U.S. Navy, G.T.R.-5. They show the target was then erased from the Israeli naval plot before the attack. They show the American flag and G.T.R.-5 marking reappearing inside intercepted Israeli communications after Israel attacked the ship. This is why the USS Liberty case does not rest on one quote.
It rests on a sequence.
Identified by Israel. Erased by Israel. Attacked by Israel. Feared inside Israel’s own archive. Then buried under the word “mistake.”
From Irgun to Liberty to 9/11
The USS Liberty attack did not come from nowhere.
It came from a political lineage born in terror, protected by empire, and normalized as “allyship.”
Irgun bombed. Menachem begin rose. Likud inherited the machine. Netanyahu became its modern face. And inside the USS Liberty file stands Moshe Dayan, Israel’s defense minister during the 1967 war — named in a CIA report for carrying the attack on the USS Liberty was ordered by Dayan.
This is the architecture: violence, denial, protection, repetition.
LBJ’s White House Access Map: Israeli Spy Mathilde Krim Before and After the USS Liberty Attack
The evidence of intentionality has already been established in the record: Israel identified the USS Liberty, erased it from the Israeli naval plot, attacked the American ship, then buried the attack under the word “mistake.”
This section moves from the attack record to the political environment around the cover-up.
The White House Daily Diary does not prove the attack order. It proves the access map around President Lyndon Johnson while the USS Liberty scandal was forming, while wounded American sailors were still living the aftermath, and while Washington moved toward silence instead of accountability.
At the center of that access map is Mathilde Krim.
Mathilde Krim was not a random socialite. She was an Israeli intelligence-linked operative in the Zionist underground orbit before she became part of Johnson’s intimate White House world. Her lineage matters: Irgun explosives and smuggling networks first, White House access later.
That is not a footnote.
That is the architecture.
The lineage runs deeper.
The Irgun was led by Menachem Begin, the man identified in American and British political records as a terrorist leader after the bombing era that included the King David Hotel attack. Begin later founded Likud. Likud became the political house that ultimately produced Benjamin Netanyahu.
That is not ancient history. That is the political bloodline.
Now place Mathilde Krim beside it:
Irgun explosives and smuggling orbit → Mathilde Krim → Lyndon Johnson’s White House.
Krim was not just a donor, guest, or “friend of the President.” She came from the Zionist underground world and then appears inside Johnson’s private wartime orbit before and after Israel attacked the USS Liberty.
Irgun became Likud. Likud became Netanyahu. Irgun’s smuggling orbit produced Mathilde Krim’s path into Johnson’s circle. And the USS Liberty sailors were left with silence.
This is not the first time Johnson’s circle appears around a national crime and a manufactured official story.

LBJ personally instructs the White House operator to reach Mathilde Krim on the eve of the USS Liberty attack.
The timing is not proof of command.
It is proof of proximity.
And proximity becomes evidence when it appears before the attack, after the attack, and inside the same political environment that refused to give the USS Liberty crew a clean public reckoning.
Five days after Israel attacked the USS Liberty, Mathilde Krim appears again in the White House diary.

Highlighted Entry: 10:07 p.m. — Mrs. Arthur Krim arrives.
The diary gives the sequence the public was never supposed to examine.
June 6: Johnson tries to reach Mathilde Krim — Israeli spy, Zionist underground operative, and former Irgun-linked smuggling figure.
June 8: Israel attacks the USS Liberty.
June 13: Mathilde Krim enters Johnson’s White House and goes to the third floor.
That is not background noise.
That is the access map.
Israel attacked the USS Liberty. American sailors were killed, wounded, and then buried under silence. Washington protected Israel behind the word “mistake.” And Mathilde Krim — an Israeli spy inside LBJ’s private orbit — appears before the attack and again after the attack in the White House diary.

Then the cover-up accusation itself entered the Congressional Record.
The Congressional Record: “Israel’s Attack Was a Deliberate Attempt to Destroy an American Ship (USS Liberty)”
The Moorer findings do not speak in the language of uncertainty.
They identify the subject directly: Israel’s attack on the USS Liberty.
They identify the political aftermath directly: the subsequent cover-up by the United States Government.
And they entered the public record of Congress through Rep. John Conyers Jr., who introduced the findings of the Independent Commission of Inquiry chaired by Admiral Thomas H. Moorer, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The hard finding is written plainly:
“Israel’s attack was a deliberate attempt to destroy an American ship and kill her entire crew.”
The findings did not attach that conclusion to anonymous speculation. They cited statements from major U.S. national-security figures, including Secretary of State Dean Rusk, Undersecretary of State George Ball, former CIA Director Richard Helms, former NSA Director William Odom, Admiral Bobby Ray Inman, Marshall Carter, Oliver Kirby, Major General John Morrison, and former Ambassador Dwight Porter.
The same findings accused the White House of deliberately preventing the U.S. Navy from coming to the defense of the Liberty by recalling Sixth Fleet rescue support while the ship was under attack.
The rescue-recall claim also appears in survivor accounts through Admiral Lawrence Geis.
Admiral Geis told the USS Liberty survivors he had ordered jets to defend the ship—until Washington intervened: “President Johnson is not going to embarrass an ally (Israel).”
And then comes the final wound: surviving crew members, according to the findings, were threatened with “court-martial, imprisonment or worse” if they exposed the truth.
This closes the political chain.
Israel attacked the USS Liberty. The evidence chain points to identification before the attack, erasure before accountability, flag recognition, pilot knowledge, and command-level allegation. The Congressional Record then carries the Moorer findings into public view: deliberate Israeli attack, White House rescue recall, and survivors threatened into silence.
The public was handed “mistake.”
The record carried deliberate attack, cover-up, and threats against American sailors.
The USS Liberty attack record shows Israeli knowledge before the strike.
The intelligence record shows Israeli erasure, flag evidence, pilot awareness, and a Dayan command allegation.
The White House record shows Mathilde Krim inside Johnson’s orbit before and after the attack.
The Congressional Record shows deliberate Israeli attack, blocked rescue, and survivors threatened into silence.
This is not the anatomy of a mistake.
This is the anatomy of protection.
Israel attacked the USS Liberty. Washington buried the sailors. The word “mistake” became the coffin they tried to seal over the crime.
The Ship Israel Failed to Sink Became the Evidence Washington Tried to Bury
The USS Liberty was attacked twice.
First by Israel, with aircraft, torpedoes, fire, and steel.
Then by Washington, with silence.
One attack tore through the ship. The other tried to tear truth out of history.
But history did not obey.
The ship survived. The sailors survived. The documents survived. And the sequence survived: Israeli identification, Israeli erasure, Israeli attack, Israeli denial, White House protection, blocked rescue, threatened survivors, Congressional Record findings, and a public story built on the word “mistake.”
That word no longer holds.
The USS Liberty exposes the whole architecture: Zionist power moving through state violence, American power bending to protect it, intelligence records buried beneath diplomatic language, and survivors treated as enemies of the official story because they refused to forget what happened to them.
