Doctorow Suggests that Trump’s Political Theater Was a Successful Strategy
Washington has wasted the first quarter of the 21st century fighting wars for Israel, the consequence being the destruction of the Arab world. Yesterday on Coffee and a Mike I agreed with Mike Farris that Trump had gone over to the dark side and was continuing America’s war-fighting for Israel, the consequence being a split in MAGA-Americans from those who want Trump held to the domestic agenda and those who think God’s purpose for America is to save Israel from its own violence.
Gilbert Doctorow offers a different interpretation. He suggests that the purpose of Trump’s bombing of Iran’s uranium enrichment sites is to shut up Netanyahu and to preempt Netanyahu from attacking the Iranian nuclear facilities with nuclear weapons. As an alleged Iranian nuke was the official excuse for Netanyahu’s military aggression against Iran, Trump’s announcement of Washington’s destruction of the sites removed the justification for continuing Israeli aggression.
Trump followed up by promptly announcing peace between the two, an announcement very much in Israel’s interest as Israel was suffering severe damage from Iran’s retaliation and was running out of air defense munitions. Trump’s political theater resulted in a cease fire that saved Israel from having to sue for peace. Iran’s retaliatory strike against the US base in Qatar, Doctorow suggests, was part of the political theater intended to end the conflict.
Doctorow’s interpretation shows a more intelligent Trump than Trump showed himself to be by appearing to draw America into another war. Doctorow might be right. Time will tell.
