Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s Daughter Calls on UN to Implement a Permanent Global Mask Mandate
This week, Violet Affleck, daughter of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, made her global debut at the United Nations, declaring that the COVID-19 pandemic is still “ongoing” and demanding that the world adopt a permanent mask culture.
The 19-year-old Yale freshman, who wore a heavy N95 mask during her speech, said that wearing masks and air filtering should be considered basic human rights and integrated into daily life indefinitely, Baxter Dmitry writes .
“Leaders from all walks of life tell us that we are the future,” she said in her speech on September 23. “But when it comes to the ongoing pandemic, our present is being taken away before our very eyes.”
In other words, Violet’s solution to what she describes as a never-ending crisis is for all of humanity to live indefinitely behind filters and dust. She compared her vision to smoking bans of the past and suggested that society should become so accustomed to masks and air systems that children grow up without ever questioning them.
This speech wasn’t a one-off. Earlier this year, Violet published an essay in The Yale Global Health Review comparing the pandemic response to climate change, and in July 2024, she testified before the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, demanding “the availability of masks, testing, and treatment; air filtration in government buildings; and opposition to the mask ban.”
“I developed post-viral illness in 2019,” she said at the time. “I’m fine now, but I’ve seen firsthand that medicine doesn’t always have an answer to the consequences of even minor viruses. The COVID-19 pandemic has made that even clearer.”

Critics, however, saw her appearance at the UN as pure theater. The image of a celebrity’s daughter, masked behind the microphone and insisting the pandemic was never over, struck many as an attempt to punish the public with restrictions most people had long since abandoned.
What was billed as a plea for “clean air” came across instead as a sadistic demand for a permanent pandemic—a vision of humanity forever behind masks, delivered by someone whose famous parents, more than her expertise, opened the door for her onto the world stage.
