‘Fourth Reich’: Musk Hits Back at EU ‘Tyrants’ After X-Fine

Elon Musk is not taking the excessive fine from Brussels bureaucrats for granted and is lashing out at EU officials for adopting Nazi characteristics and suppressing the interests of their own citizens.
The tyrannical, unelected bureaucracy oppressing the people of Europe can be seen in the second photo https://t.co/j6CFFbajJa

As Catherine Salgado reports for PJMedia.com, Musk also reshared a post about Irish teacher Enoch Burke, who was jailed for refusing to use transgender pronouns, and later replied to another user: “There are so many politicians in Europe who are betraying their own people,” Tyler Durden writes .
Musk highlighted the fact that Meta has a verification program similar to X’s, but that the EU has not imposed large fines on Meta, which is more prone to censorship.
Musk re-shared his previous explanation of why he bought X (then Twitter) in the first place.
” I didn’t buy Twitter because I thought it was a great way to make money. I knew there would be countless arrows pointed at me.
It really felt like there was a threat to civilization, as all the major online platforms were falling in line, as was traditional media.
There was literally nowhere to find the truth. It was almost impossible. Everything was simply censored. The power of the censorship apparatus was incredible ,” Musk said.
The EU appears to be borrowing ideas from 20th-century Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler…
Musk confirmed that another user’s report that X had terminated the European Commission’s ad account was accurate in the wake of the fine.
Twitter used to charge around $15,000 for a blue checkmark verification, while an X Premium subscription now costs just a few dollars a month.
Are EU bureaucrats simply angry that ordinary citizens can now afford the verification that was once the preserve of celebrities and the wealthy?
For years, many free speech advocates ( notably Jonathan Turley ) have warned of the threat the European Union poses to free speech, particularly through the introduction of the infamous Digital Services Act (DSA).
The EU has effectively declared war on freedom of speech and is targeting American companies.
That war has just begun with the first DSA fine.
Unsurprisingly, the chosen target was X – a company accused by many in the EU and US of rolling back protections for free speech.
Essentially, it’s punishment for not bowing to the EU’s iron control over online content.
As Steve Watson of Modernity.news notes , the fine smacks of the same vengeful tactics the EU has been playing since Musk took over Twitter in 2022. This is no coincidence; Brussels is targeting him precisely because he has transformed the platform into a haven for unfiltered debate and refuses to censor the whims of unelected technocrats.
This isn’t a one-off blow, but the culmination of years of threats and intimidation. In January 2023, European Commission Vice-President Vera Jourová publicly warned Musk that his “absolutism on freedom of speech” wouldn’t work, declaring that “the days of the Wild West are over,” and threatening sanctions if Twitter didn’t comply with DSA rules. She equated illegal content with anything the elites consider offensive, paving the way for today’s fine.
In October 2023, EU Commissioner Thierry Breton sent a letter demanding that X tackle “illegal content and disinformation” regarding the Gaza conflict. Musk responded sharply, demanding a specific list of violations so the public could judge for themselves.
Breton’s vague accusations—which cited reused images and unverified claims—highlighted the EU’s preference for opacity over accountability. Musk responded: “List the violations you’re referring to on X so the public can see them.” The EU didn’t respond, but the threats continued.
Our policy is that everything is open source and transparent, an approach that the EU supports to my knowledge.
Please list the violations you are referring to on ? so the public can see them.
Merci beaucoup.

Musk further shows evidence that the European Union sent him a formal letter demanding that he censure Donald Trump during the 2024 US presidential election.
Since Musk’s takeover, X has become a battleground for free speech, banning accounts banned under the old regime and prioritizing user-powered content over algorithmic suppression. But for the EU, that’s precisely the problem.
Their DSA empowers regulators to dictate what platforms promote or downgrade, under the guise of combating “hate speech” and “disinformation.” In reality, it’s a tool to silence dissent about open borders, climate hysteria, or any other narrative that challenges the globalist agenda.
This fine is not an isolated incident – it is part of a chilling pattern of EU overreaction that threatens privacy and freedom of expression across the continent.
Take, for example, the proposed Chat Control Act, which would require backdoors in encrypted messages on apps like WhatsApp and Signal.
This law, marketed as a child protection measure, would scan billions of private conversations, exposing users to hacking, fraud, and government spying. Meredith Whittaker, Signal’s CEO, called it a “catastrophic shift” that betrays Europe’s privacy commitments, while experts warn of massive false positives and geopolitical abuse.
Then there are Brussels’ aggressive enforcement measures. In May of this year, the European Commission took the Czech Republic, Spain, Cyprus, Poland, and Portugal to court for delaying the implementation of the DSA, specifically by failing to appoint national coordinators or impose sanctions. Critics see this as a way to force member states into a straitjacket of surveillance, forcing platforms to censor excessively to avoid fines, thus suppressing smaller voices and user privacy.
At the heart of all this is the EU’s obsession with controlling information flows. In a January 2024 speech in Davos, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen declared disinformation the “single most pressing concern” for the coming years and called for a “new global framework” in which governments and Big Tech collaborate to control AI and online content.
She praised the DSA for defining the responsibilities of platforms, but the undertone was clear: platforms like X that don’t play by the rules must be crushed. Jourová joined in, meeting with executives from Meta and YouTube to ensure compliance while also addressing Musk’s “absolutism.”
These steps expose the hypocrisy: the EU claims to defend democracy, but is building an Orwellian apparatus that monitors, scans, and punishes speech. It’s not about security, it’s about power.
This latest EU attack on X has infuriated US Vice President JD Vance, who posted the following message on X yesterday as rumours of the impending punishment circulated:
The EU should support freedom of speech instead of attacking American companies for “this nonsense.”
Rumors are swirling that the European Commission will fine X hundreds of millions of dollars for not censoring anything. The EU should support free speech instead of attacking US companies for nonsense.
— JD Vance (@JDVance) December 4, 2025
Vance’s previous scathing critique of European tyranny sent shockwaves through Brussels. In a February 2025 speech at the Munich Security Conference, Vance slammed EU leaders for preaching democracy while arresting citizens for silent prayer, canceling elections, and ignoring voters when it comes to mass migration.
“Not a single voter on this continent went to the polls to open the floodgates to millions of unscreened immigrants,” he declared, describing Europeans as more than “interchangeable cogs in a global economy.”
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius called Vance’s views “unacceptable,” reinforcing Vance’s point about normalized authoritarianism.
Vance’s words were prescient – the fine X received today illustrates how the EU uses law as a weapon to crush free speech platforms it sees as a threat to its controlled narrative. With Trump back in the White House, and Vance a key ally, expect a headwind: America will not stand idly by while its allies undermine the freedoms that define the West.
X’s $140 million fine isn’t just a fine, it’s a declaration of war on uncensored dialogue.
Musk’s platform remains one of the last major bastions where ideas can circulate freely, unhindered by globalist filters. Now that the EU is tightening its grip, the message is clear: obey or be crushed.
As Jonathan Turley concludes , this is the first fine under the DSA and EU officials have acknowledged that it will lay the groundwork for additional sanctions to force companies to adhere to EU “values” on free speech.
Specifically, the European Commission imposed a fine of €120 million ($140 million) on X after finding that the company had misled users with its paid blue checkmark verification symbol, failed to grant researchers access to data, and failed to establish a proper advertising database.

X has 60 days to develop solutions to address the problems and 90 days to implement the changes, or the company could face further fines.
The “EU” not only imposed this insane fine on @X , but also on me personally, which is even crazier!
Therefore, it seems appropriate to direct our response not only at the EU, but also at the individuals who took this measure against me. https://t.co/n2LE0eZiI7
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 5, 2025
Under the DSA, the EU can impose fines of up to 6% of an online platform’s annual global turnover for failing to address illegal content, disinformation, or transparency requirements.
The EU is still investigating X and several other major US tech companies including Apple, Google and Meta, under the DSA and the Digital Markets Act.
This includes investigations into the failure to implement censorship requests, including from US citizens.

This is just the first salvo in a war some of us have been warning is coming. We cannot remain passive at this point. The EU is threatening the very right that has long defined us as a people. Many in the United States applaud Europeans for rolling back free speech protections at X and Meta. Some have appeared before the EU calling for such measures. They could use the EU to achieve abroad what they have not been able to achieve in the United States. The result will be the same for Americans, who will find themselves subjected to European censorship and “values.”
