Frankenfood — The Future Isn’t Farm to Table, It’s Lab to Plate

Frankenfood — The Future Isn’t Farm to Table, It’s Lab to Plate

We’ve seen that food nowadays is not what it seems. From 3D printing meat to normalizing insects, it seems like meat is a constant experiment that just keeps pushing the limits of reality. And now, in a new video, scientists are straight up taking cells and turning them into full-blown chicken. Let’s break it down.

In a factory tour that felt more like a tech demo than a food story, Upside Foods showed infamous internet personality MrBeast how one small sample of chicken cells taken in 2018 has been multiplied into hundreds of thousands of pounds of meat. We’re talking no farms, no animals. Just tanks, pipes, nutrients, and replication.

The first step is extraction, then simulation. Upside Foods openly says they are “simulating a chicken’s body” so the cells can multiply. Protein, fat, and sugar are fed into steel containers where cells “swim” and grow every few seconds into something that will eventually be sold as chicken.

So to be clear, this chicken isn’t coming from livestock; it’s literally tissue engineering at an industrial scale.

And when you see the biggest influencer on the planet just walking through the lab smiling, nodding, and marveling at the process, it makes the whole thing just that much more disturbing and dystopian.

The comments below this confirm that people are not too keen on eating bioengineered chicken, making it clear that companies need to label if this kind of process is being used as well as flagging current HHS Secretary RFK Jr.

“I think this is one of the reasons they are destroying farmers—to make these companies our only choice. To me, it’s not ready for prime time. It will take decades to learn of any downsides or problems it produces. I hope RFK Jr. stops it in the USA.”

“It’s time to mandate the truthful labeling of the ingredients. The general public needs to know what they are actually eating. And having to look up a QR code is unacceptable.”

“I DO NOT want to eat any bioengineered food!!! I demand disclosure on the companies selling it for HUMAN consumption. @SecKennedy @US_FDA @FDA @NIH @HHS_Jim @HHSGov”

“Imagine standing in such a sterilized environment, in a highly industrialized setting, surrounded by steel pipes full chemicals, and machines that use an ungodly amount of electricity, on a now dead piece of land that used to be a forest… And thinking that’s a W for nature.”

“initial response is disgust and fear of consuming unknowingly then getting cancer later. but if its identical to chicken meat and has no potential for giving humans serious illnesses id be fine with it. but that seems unlikely since fda lies and has been poisoning us for decades.”

“Likely what McDonald’s does for their ‘100% beef hamburgers.’”

DEBRIEFING

Honestly, this entire thing is disturbing, and what makes it really concerning is the overall lack of transparency here.

You have to stop and wonder: how much bioengineered meat have I consumed without my knowledge?

And you can see that’s the common theme in public opinion according to the comment section below. People aren’t just reacting to bioengineered chicken, but they’re taking into account the entire system around it. They see the big picture, like farmers disappearing and industrial facilities replacing land.

When food moves from pasture to pipeline, from farm to factory simulation, the public response is number one, health concerns, but then number two, questioning the bigger powers at play here. Who’s deciding the standards here? Who decides what’s safe? There are a lot of unanswered questions here with bioengineered meat, and understandably, it is fueling more paranoia around an already sensitive subject.

NOW YOU KNOW

The factory isn’t just making food. It’s rewriting nature.
