The Right Must Crush the Left Before It’s Too Late

The American right has tried talking with the left; the left has responded with violence. This was demonstrated in gruesome detail last month in Utah, when a young man radicalized online by left-wing, trans ideology murdered Charlie Kirk, the most prominent conservative practitioner of peaceful dialogue, in front of a stadium full of students.

A long trail of left-wing violence precedes that shocking event. Just days before, another trans ideologue shot up a church full of children in Minneapolis, killing two kids. And, just days after, a rooftop sniper who left behind anti-ICE messages opened fire on the Dallas ICE detention center, shooting three people and killing one. Over the past 10 years, the left has vandalized, burned, looted, and murdered in cities across America, starting with the Ferguson riots in Missouri and reaching a fever pitch with the nationwide uprising sparked by the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis in 2020.

Elites in government, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), courts, media, corporations, and academia consistently support left-wing violence throughout the Western world. From their perches, they promote the leftist victim narrative that non-whites and non-heterosexuals are justified in violently lashing out. They direct this resentment and aggression primarily against historic Christian cultures and their founding populations of straight, white citizens.

When left-wing ideology triggers eruptions of violence against Western culture and people, the elites use the media to justify, minimize, or ignore the violence. They use the courts to reduce charges and sentences for left-wing offenders, and at NGOs they raise funds to bail left-wing thugs out of jail. Furthermore, they use their positions in government to open the borders to a flood of legal and illegal immigration, which they hope will dilute, undermine, and destroy the culture and populations that built Western societies.

The time for talk is over. While the right still holds power in America, it must use that power to punish and, ultimately, to destroy what the American left has become. Holding left-wing views in America must become socially unacceptable and disqualifying for any position of importance. The average left-of-center American has adopted left-wing views by default because such views dominate media and academia. This will only change if the right uses the government to punish and remove from the seats of power those pushing leftist ideology, which is inherently hostile to America’s heritage and social morality.

President Trump has shown the correct instincts for this necessary fight by going after his political enemies, including those who tried and failed to put him in prison during the Biden administration. He has removed federal funding from Ivy League universities, and the heads of several large liberal universities have lost their jobs. He has designated Antifa as a domestic terror organization and has promised, in the wake of Kirk’s assassination, to track down and prosecute left-wing terror groups that coordinate and promote violence using communication tools like Discord. He has vowed to go after the NGOs that fund violent protests, including the Open Society Foundations of George Soros.

The Trump administration might be forced to take further steps. It may, for example, invoke federal authority to scrutinize the upcoming midterm elections, especially in large Democratic cities, where ballot harvesting and voter fraud are long-established practices. Authorities should aggressively investigate any sign of impropriety. Where cheating has occurred, the offenders should be prosecuted and the results should be nullified.

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr provided another example when threatening to pull the broadcast licenses of ABC affiliates, after late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel lied to his audience by telling him that Kirk’s killer was a right-winger. Carr’s threat succeeded in at least temporarily suspending Kimmel from his show; the FCC should go further and start following through on suspensions when left-wing shows broadcast blatant lies. There are limits to free speech, especially when speech distorts the truth in a way that promotes violence or harm.

For the past eight years, networks and newspapers have repeated the lie that Trump called neo-Nazi groups at the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville “very fine people.” How many people have used this lie to label the president a Nazi and to compare him to Hitler? This led to at least two attempts on Trump’s life, by the misguided leftists Thomas Crooks and Ryan Routh. Mainstream media have been crying “Fire!” in the theatre of American politics for too long; it is time they be called to account.

A list of possible actions or tactics, which under changing circumstances may or may not be prudent, is not as important as the overarching goal: to defeat the American left by any means necessary. Conservatives saying we should “lower the temperature” and “reach across the aisle” are dangerously deluded. The right is in a battle to the death with an implacable left, which is using the protections of America’s liberal democracy to destroy the country from within. The left is a nihilistic, totalitarian force that sees the culture, peoples, history, and religions of the Western world as inherently evil and exploitative.

When in power, the left selectively applies its principles of diversity, equality, and inclusion to benefit its allies and harm its enemies. When the right is in power, it handicaps itself by following the rules of liberal tolerance. It must abandon these and stand for true right-wing principles: order, authority, hierarchy, and tradition.

The right must realize it faces not a debating partner, but an existential threat that must be driven from power. The right must win this battle. There may even come a time (although we hope this will not be the case) when the executive branch must suspend constitutional rights to crack down on left-wing violence, to rein in an out-of-control judiciary, or to declare martial law. It should cultivate counter-elite allies in technology, military, and intelligence circles in preparation for that eventuality.

As John Adams wrote in 1798, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” It should be blatantly obvious that the American left has wholly abandoned morality and religion and that the country’s open form of government has been corrupted from within.

It is only in America that the right still has a chance to defeat the left. Western European societies are hopelessly controlled by the totalitarian left and provide a glimpse of what will happen in America if the left is not defeated here. Right-wing parties in Britain and Germany are all but outlawed; right-wing speech is punished severely, including with jail time, and right-wing parties are either banned and oppressed or reduced to a supine controlled opposition. If there’s any chance the West’s life-or-death struggle with the left can still be won, it must be won in America first.
