The Situation on the Russian Front

Gilbert Doctorow, who is currently in Russia, reports that Russian life is increasingly disrupted and inconvenienced by drone strikes deep into Russia.  The cost and frustration has resulted in growing percentages of the population losing patience with Putin’s limited and never-ending war.  The dissatisfaction with Putin’s conduct of a war now completing its fourth year is found also among governing elements.  Consequently, Putin has hardened his line with regard to the terms of a settlement with the West.

Once the Trump gang understood that Putin would not agree to a ceasefire in place and that Putin was not going to yield to Trump’s demands, the White House signaled that the Trump-Putin meeting was off for the time being.

John Helmer has reported that a resolution of the conflict, regardless of the terms on which it is resolved, does not suite the war interests that essentially control the decision.  Trump has roped Europe into raising its military spending to 5% of its GDP, an increase that means enormous amounts of money flowing into US weapons purchases generating  massive amounts of commissions on the sales for the government officials involved.  War is too big of a profit generator and wealth creator for involved individuals to permit peace.  Helmer discusses the power of money here:

The chances that the world is headed to war would be reduced if the American, British, and European foreign policy communities were capable of discussing the factual reality.  Instead, anyone such as Doctorow, Helmer, or myself who presents the reality of the situation is rudely dismissed with ad hominem attacks.  As long as the real facts are prohibited, no good decisions can be made.
