Why are So Many Black Georgia Politicians Getting Arrested Right Now?

Why are So Many Black Georgia Politicians Getting Arrested Right Now?

There’s a lot going down in Georgia right now, and none of it looks good for Dems.

On one track, Georgia is once again at the center of questions surrounding the 2020 election, with President Trump saying that something big may be coming on that front.

But at the same time, something else is unfolding that is also hard to spin away. A growing number of black Georgia Dems and connected figures are being arrested, charged, or pleading guilty to fraud. We’re talking straight-up abuse of taxpayer-funded programs.

At this point, it’s not one bad apple. It’s a lot of them. And people are starting to ask an obvious question: what exactly is going on in Georgia with black folks?

Justice.gov:

ATLANTA – Dexter L. Sharper, a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, was charged today with making false statements to fraudulently obtain thousands of dollars of emergency pandemic unemployment assistance payments.

“While many of his constituents and fellow citizens were losing jobs and desperately needed unemployment assistance during the pandemic, Representative Sharper allegedly pretended to be out of work to collect a share of unemployment benefits for himself,” said U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg. “When government officials lie to take money, and do it while holding an elected office, it violates the trust of citizens and weakens faith in our elected government.”

“These charges point to some disgraceful conduct at the highest level, which should shock and repulse every citizen”, said Georgia State Inspector General Nigel Lange. “The alleged activities describe a disgusting abuse by an elected official who appeared to trade his integrity for money destined for those in need. Shameful.”

“Dexter L. Sharper, while serving as an elected member of the Georgia House of Representatives, is alleged to have unlawfully enriched himself by improperly obtaining taxpayer funds from the unemployment insurance program intended to assist American workers who lost their jobs through no fault of their own,” said Anthony P. D’Esposito, Inspector General, U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Inspector General. “These charges reflect allegations, and the case will be resolved through the judicial process. We will continue our efforts to investigate and pursue accountability for those who are charged with defrauding taxpayers by exploiting Department of Labor programs.”

“Nobody is above the law, including elected officials,” said FBI Atlanta Acting Special Agent in Charge Peter Ellis. “Those who violate the public trust and steal from taxpayers to fill their own pockets will be held accountable.”

Think about it: according to federal prosecutors, a sitting lawmaker falsely claimed to be “unemployed” during the pandemic in order to collect emergency assistance meant for people who had actually lost their jobs.

But this case isn’t the only one.

Another Georgia case now working its way through federal court involves the misuse of housing and pandemic funds by a black senior public housing official.

WSBTV:

A former Atlanta Housing Authority executive pleaded guilty Monday in a federal court to collecting more than $300,000 in federal housing and pandemic funds.

Channel 2 Investigative Reporter Ashli Lincoln was in the courtroom as former senior vice president Tracy Jones pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit theft of government funds, wire fraud and credit application fraud.

She could face more than 20 years in prison.

Jones spoke softly, answering mostly yes-or-no questions. In the end, she told the judge she agreed with the facts laid out in a 16-page plea agreement and told the court she was guilty of using federal dollars to pay herself to rent a Fayetteville home she owns.

A former Atlanta Housing Authority employee, who asked not to be identified, says the allegations leave a lasting stain on the agency meant to help families find stable footing.

“I think it’s devastating. When I saw the story, I was blown away by the level of deceit and arrogance,” the former employee said.

The indictment says Jones collected nearly $300,000 in three separate ways.

More than $63,000, prosecutors say, came after Jones falsified documents to approve her son’s girlfriend for federal housing vouchers used to rent a Fayetteville home that Jones owned.

Court documents say Jones even staged a domestic violence incident to help secure voucher approval.

Prosecutors say this scheme went on for years. What makes cases like this really damaging is that these programs are around to help families on the edge. Every dollar taken by these criminals is one less dollar for people who actually need it.

And yet, the list keeps growing.

In another case, federal prosecutors charged a black Georgia state representative with fraudulently collecting unemployment benefits while running for office and even after being sworn in.

Georgia Recorder:

A Georgia state representative is accused of fraudulently collecting $17,811 in unemployment benefits after allegedly applying for a federal program meant to support people who had lost their jobs due to the pandemic, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Monday.

Rep. Sharon Henderson, a Covington Democrat whose district spans a western portion of Newton County, was charged with two counts of theft of government funds and 10 counts of making false statements.

Henderson was scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Justin Anand on Monday afternoon. She did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

The program, which was established by Congress in 2020, provided cash assistance to those experiencing unemployment as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Applicants were required to submit weekly certifications providing the reason they were unemployed and stating that they were actively looking for work.

Prosecutors say Henderson applied for the program during June 2020, when she was a candidate for the Georgia House of Representatives, falsely claiming that she had been an employee of the Henry County School District in 2019 and 2020, and was laid off due to the pandemic.

In reality, authorities say Henderson had only spent five days working for Henry County Schools as a substitute teacher in 2018, and had not worked there since. Additionally, the substitute teaching contract she signed included an acknowledgement that she was not eligible for unemployment benefits.

Henderson allegedly submitted eight certifications in June 2021, after she was sworn in as an elected official.

If proven, this shows a real willingness to double down and steal even after entering public office.

Which brings us to yet another black Georgia lawmaker tied to pandemic fraud. This one actually pled guilty.

CBS News:

A former Georgia House member has pleaded guilty to lying to collect federal unemployment benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Karen Bennett’s guilty plea to one count of making false statements to collect $13,940 had been expected after she waived her indictment on Jan. 5.

Bennett, 70, had resigned from the House in the days before she was charged.

“Serving in this capacity has truly been a labor of love, and one I will deeply miss,” she wrote in her resignation letter.

Prosecutors said Bennett, a physical therapist, lied in 2020 when she stated she was being prevented by quarantine from working for Metro Therapy Providers, a company Bennett owned. Prosecutors said that in reality, Bennett’s role with the company was administrative and she worked from a home office, instead of providing therapy to clients. They also allege that Metro Therapy continued operating and generating income after a brief disruption.

By now, the picture is pretty hard to ignore.

Multiple black Georgia Dems have been arrested for multiple fraud cases involving multiple federal programs meant to help people during a national emergency.

Each case stands on its own, but when you lump them together, they point to something bigger than just a coincidence. They suggest a political culture where abusing the very government programs that most of your voters use is perfectly okay with a lot of black folks.

This disturbing “DEI” theme has been playing out in states all over the US. So much so that we actually started a series about black women behaving badly.

Revolver:

There are bad people in this world, and then there’s Connie Bobo, who really takes the cake.

Connie is the Missouri “charity boss” behind another grift-giving business called New Heights Community Resource Center. The center was supposed to be helping feed starving, low-income kids.

Instead, prosecutors say Queen Bobo spent nearly $11 million in taxpayer money on herself and her boyfriend. She let kids starve so she could live like some quasi Queen Latifah.

[…]

Sadly, this is the perfect snapshot of modern DEI corruption: public money meant for hungry children ending up as a down payment on some wannabe “Queen Latifah” lifestyle of vanity and greed.

This is becoming part of a national trend of black women behaving badly… an issue we highlighted last year.

Revolver:

What’s happening with black women in America? Some are rising to power thanks to the DEI movement, which rewards skin color, gender, and sexual preference over merit, experience, or excellence. However, the problem arises once those women who are not qualified are placed in positions of power and leadership, where they often quickly crash and burn. From embezzling $15 million in COVID funds to engaging in shameless plagiarism, these meritless women have demonstrated that they are not up to the task and struggle with the responsibilities they’ve been given. Naturally, they revert to what they know best: lying, cheating, and stealing. The whole situation is unfair to those black women in this country who succeed based on merit, honesty, and hard work to be lumped in with the large mass of meritless DEI incompetents.

“Black women behaving badly” has become a national pastime that can no longer be ignored. We’ve compiled a list of some of the most infamous cases of black women in leadership roles behaving badly.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett:

Texas Rep. Jasmine Crocket is bringing the “hood” to Capitol Hill. She has single-handedly infused “yass queen” vibes into US lawmaking. Gone are the days of respectable decorum and old-fashioned professionalism, now replaced by mile-long fake eyelashes, neon acrylic nails, and a head-bob that screams, “Oh no, you didn’t!”

Wikipedia says Crockett was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She attended Mary Institute, St. Louis Country Day School, and Rosati-Kain, an all-girls Catholic high school in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from Rhodes College in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in business administration. As an undergraduate, Crockett planned to become an anesthesiologist or certified public accountant before deciding to attend law school, which she stated was due to experiencing a hate crime while attending college.

The low-IQ left adores Jasmine’s dumbed-down “hoodrat” act. Meanwhile, the rest of the country watches, confused and concerned. What are we becoming… a nation of fools or fighters?”

As it stands now, black Georgia Dems don’t just have an optics problem; they have a credibility problem, too. And as investigations continue on multiple fronts, voters are left to wonder how much more is still buried.

Chances are a lot…
